- Abstract
The article presents arguments for the need to manage career development, in particular of the academic staff. The importance of this management on a personal and organizational level is justified. The applicability of the processes at the academic level through the general features and dimensions of the university, which determine its functioning, is analyzed. Areas of career development of university lecturers / researchers based on a study of various models of career management are presented. Paper describes phenomena as a "transforming career", "intelligent careers" and self-directed learning. The articlе describes an approach to study and analysis the needs of university lecturers / researchers for career development skills. It includes: a content part – a system of competences needed to manage one's own career; instrumental part – study method and reflexive part – conditions / factors for effective research. The conduct of such studies among academic staff may serve as a basis for the planning of information, training and advisory services and activities, part of the in-university qualification system, to support the career development of the staff.
