- Title
Formal Mate Selection Networks in the United States.
- Authors
Jedlicka, Davor
- Abstract
Mate selection barriers beyond individuals' control are presented as reasons for development of formal mate selection networks. These networks foster an atmosphere of acceptance for individuals whose traits are viewed as undesirable in usual face-to-face contacts. Counseling professionals may utilize selected networks as an alternative to "changing" or "training" their clients. Network processes are described and classified according to the degree of third party involvement and the degree to which anonymity of participants is protected.
