- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The word menopause taken from greek word "meno" means month and "pause" means cessation. It is a transitional period that every women goes through after age 40. India has a large population - which has already crossed the 1 billion mark with 71 million people over 60 years of age and the number of menopausal women about 43 million. Menopause is accompanied by biological and psychological changes that affect a women's health and sense of well being. The perception of women towards physiological problems faced at menopause is poor in community setting because of certain reasons and aspects. AIM OF THE STUDY: To assess the physiological problems of the women faced at menopause and their perception towards physiological problems. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This descriptive study was conducted at in selected Rural Community of Village Manakpur, on a group of 160 women by convienent sampling technique. A Check list was used to assess the physiological problems faced at menopause & five point rating scale was used to assess the perception towards physiological problems. RESULTS: Present study revealed that only 8.2% women had physiological problems and 91.8% women had not physiological problems faced at menopause. Only 34.4% women had positive perception towards physiological problems and 65.6% women had negative perception towards physiological problems faced at menopause. Perception of women towards physiological problems faced at menopause was associated with marital status, sexual desire and dietary habit at level (p<0.05) significance except age, educational status and occupation. CONCLUSION: Majority of the women had no physiological problems at menopause but they had negative perception towards physiological problems.
