- Title
Cell wall appositions: the first line of defence.
- Authors
Collinge, David B.
- Abstract
The author comments on a study which applied a forward genetic approach to examine the role of papilla components in Einkorn wheat infected with the powdery mildew fungus Blumeria graminis. The results are said to indicate the importance of the role of lignification of papillae, particularly the monolignol biosynthesis phase, in defence against penetratration by the fungus. One perceived limitation of the study was its failure to address the effects of over-expression of individual components.
