- Title
Student at RPI develops miniature terahertz device.
- Abstract
The article reports that an ultralight terahertz (T-rays) spectrometer that weighs less than five pounds has been developed by Brian Schulkin, a physics doctoral candidate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. The "Mini-Z" is smaller and lighter than previous terahertz devices, and it has successfully detected cracks in space shuttle foam, imaged tumors in breast tissue, and spotted counterfeit watermarks on paper currency.
