- Abstract
This article discusses the recent insights into the use of fucoidan probiotic and its effect on gut microbiota. Fucoidan is a polysaccharide found in sea cucumbers and brown algae, and it has various biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immunomodulatory effects. The extraction methods and sources of fucoidan can affect its content and structure. Fucoidan extracts have received regulatory approvals for usage in meals and dietary supplements in several countries. Additionally, fucoidan has been shown to have a prebiotic effect on the development of probiotics and can induce favorable microbiota alterations.
