- Abstract
This article presents information related to the bankruptcy system of the U.S. When Congress drastically revised and revolutionized the bankruptcy system in the U.S. a quarter of a century ago, it set in motion new strategies and ways of operating for businesses and individuals. It also created new legal problems. The number of bankruptcy filings in the U.S. has soared in the last 25 years, perhaps because of the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1978, perhaps because of the easing of consumer credit and the effective elimination of state usury limits, and perhaps because of some combination of these or other factors. Along with the tremendous increase in the number of bankruptcy filings, the Supreme Court's attention to bankruptcy law has also greatly increased.
