- Abstract
The article presents profiles of 19th century photographer Lala Deen Dayal as well as his achievements in India. In 1862, Dayal graduated at the University of Roorkee with the degree in engineering and later he joined the Engineering Office at Indore, in which he began a serious study in photography. In 1865, Sir Henry Daly, agent to the Governor-General, commissioned Dayal to photograph the Governor-General's tour because he was impressed with Dayal's work. In 1868, Sir Lepel Griffiin, new agent to the Governor-General appointed Dayal to photograph temples and palaces in the country.
