- Abstract
The article reports on the results of research which was conducted in an effort to assess the efficacy of preoperative autologous blood donation in reducing patient exposure to allogenic blood products following elective cardiac surgery. Researchers examined 48 patients in a prospective study. They found that preoperative blood donation significantly reduced exposure to perioperative allogenic blood products.
