- Abstract
The author examines a study which investigates the increasing shortage of primary physicians in the U.S. Topics discussed include the factors that influence the decision of physicians not to work in primary care, such as lack of mentorship, resident perception of primary care careers and difficulty in navigating the social and medical needs of patients, and suggestions that could improve the residents' training experience such as broadening overall outpatient exposure.
