- Abstract
The practical utility and exploitation of the fast -growing information industry has yet to make a widespread impact on management and business. Until the mid-1980s information specialists remained the main vehicle for the research and dissemination of published information on any large scale. However, investment and research in electronic information delivery from commercial online databases is now leading to new phases of development which can carry information direct to the user in all its promised immediacy. The current situation and the promise of continuous simplifying improvements have an important message for the decision-maker.
