- Abstract
The article focuses on the arrival of Jewish refugees from Russia in Omaha, Nebraska. The refugees were aided by such groups as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and the Jewish Colonization Association. Temporary quarters were provided by the Omaha Hebrew Benevolent Society. Twenty Jewish families settled on free government land in Burleigh County, North Dakota in 1882. Government land was made available to the immigrants under the Kinkaid Act in Western Nebraska in 1906. The Omaha branch of the Jewish Alliance of America was founded to establish small Jewish communities in less populated areas.
