- Abstract
Postgraduate education aims to train highly qualified human resources who can specialize and develop their research skills beyond their undergraduate degree. To achieve this goal, it is important to provide high-quality education. Evaluating the postgraduate education process and eliminating any problems that arise can pave the way for better postgraduate education. In order to evaluate the process, the opinions of both faculty members and students should be taken into account. The evaluations of faculty members and the issues they face during the postgraduate education process can help eliminate the deficiencies in this field. The research aims to reveal the opinions of faculty members working in the Department of International Trade and Logistics about the postgraduate education process and the problems they encounter. The sample consists of 20 faculty members from different universities in Turkey, selected by purposeful sampling method in the 2022-2023 academic year. In-depth interviews were conducted to collect data, and descriptive and content analysis were used to analyze the data. The research concluded that postgraduate students in the Department of International Trade and Logistics mainly pursue postgraduate education for academic career, professional development, and personal growth. It is important for students to complete their assigned duties on time and communicate effectively with faculty members. Students usually choose an advisor at the end of the first semester, and departments offer both elective and compulsory courses. The thesis topic is determined according to the student's interest, and the advisor helps the student choose the subject where the student has difficulty. Advisors meet with students monthly or as needed. In addition, it has been determined that elements such as the student's failure to fulfill his/her responsibilities on time during the graduate education process, not doing research/knowledge, absenteeism, problems caused by different undergraduate graduations, not giving professional practice-oriented courses and the professors not being field teachers, and clerical errors are often problems.
