- Abstract
Covid-19, which emerged in China and spread throughout the world, spread rapidly and seriously affected the economies of the countries. In the past, humanity had to face with many epidemics and states struggled with various economic losses. The rapid globalization of the world plays a major role in the epidemics becoming pandemics. The economies of the countries were severely affected by the epidemic, social distance, staying at home and travel restrictions disrupted many sectors, so various economic measures had to be taken. In this situation, where supply and demand shocks were experienced, economies were exposed to the deterioration of foreign trade balance due to the decrease in investments, the decrease in production volume and price increases. In this study, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on industrial production in OECD countries between March 2020 and April 2022 were analyzed by panel data method. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases and the number of people who lost their lives due to Covid-19 reduced industrial production in OECD countries.
