- Title
Counterfeiting and the Economics of Kingship in Milton's Eikonoklastes.
- Authors
COHEN, SCOTT
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "Eikonoklastes" by John Milton is presented. It outlines the characters and explores the symbolic significance of these characters. It examines how the image of King Charles I of England, as portrayed in the document of the king's final meditations in prison "Eikon Bailike," is undermined in the book. How counterfeiting and iconoclasm of early modern England are criticized by Milton through his rewriting political authority are discussed.
