- Abstract
Admiral Wemyss then became First Sea Lord and as such was the British representative at the armistice negotiations which ended the fighting in the First World War. Admiral Ros slyn Wemyss has been largely forgotten, being regarded as an interim and almost accidental First Sea Lord keeping the seat warm until Admiral Beatty could take over following the premature departure of Admiral Jellicoe. Appointed as deputy to Admiral Jellicoe, intended to reduce his workload, Admiral Wemyss played a part in Jellicoe's sacking and this account of that event is more believable than some of the others, especially that of Lloyd George.
