- Authors
Marchegiani, Giovanni
- Abstract
The 2023 inaugural issue of BJS Open featured a randomized clinical trial comparing interrupted sutures to continuous sutures for biliary-enteric anastomosis. The study found no significant advantage to either method, with comparable bile leak rates and a longer operative time for interrupted sutures. The publication sparked a lively discussion on X (previously known as Twitter) among HPB surgeons. Another notable article discussed the use of large language models in surgical science, highlighting their potential applications and associated risks. The journal also focused on pancreatic diseases, with studies revealing high postoperative morbidity and mortality rates. A radiomics-based fistula risk score was developed, which could improve preoperative patient counseling. The journal expressed gratitude to authors and peer reviewers and looked forward to more high-quality submissions in the future.
