DESCRIBING THE IMPACT OF OUR WORK AS PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS: SHARED VOICES.
- Authors
Foreman, Tamarine; Savitsky, Devyn
- Abstract
Counselors attending a conference education session entitled "The Impact of our work: Understanding vicarious traumatization and posttraumatic growth", were invited to share their thoughts about how they have been impacted by trauma during their work as a counselor. A total of 133 responses were analyzed using content analysis methodology to explore patterns in the responses as indicative of vicarious traumatization and posttraumatic growth. Together, the shared voices highlight the negative and positive impact of working with clients, especially when working with clients who have experienced trauma. The researchers highlight these processes and provide implications for practice and future research.
