- Authors
Paige, David D.; Rasinski, Timothy V.; Magpuri-Lavell, Theresa
- Abstract
The article discusses a study investigating the relationship between fluency in silent reading and reading comprehension in secondary students. The study's finding that reading fluency correlated with reading proficiency is examined, and the authors' assertion that fluency should be a higher pedagogical priority is emphasized. Secondary components of reading fluency including automatic work recognition and prosody, or expressiveness in reading, are also commented on, and advice for teaching reading fluency is offered.
