- Abstract
The article presents information on legal developments in marketing relative to the regulation of product characteristics. In regard to product quality and safety standards, the article discusses U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) action against Corning Glass Works and Owens-Illinois, Inc. for short counting disposable glass culture tubes. In regard to packaging and labeling, the article discusses FTC rules on the posting of Gasoline Octane Ratings necessitated by the Petroleum Marketing Practices Act of 1978. In regard to credit terms and conditions of sale, the article discusses FTC action against the Royal Furniture Co., Inc. et al. and Marathon Oil Co. for unfair consumer credit and collection practices. Both companies are under consent orders.
