- Title
Culture Clash: Foreign Oil and Indigenous People in Northern Veracruz, Mexico, 1900–1921.
- Authors
Santiago, Myrna
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the impact of foreign oil on the indigenous population of the Huasteca region in northern Veracruz, Mexico, in the early 20th century. It discusses how the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution contributed to the industry's bust beginning in 1920. The author argues that foreign oil entities ceased to be modernizers in the region and shifted to exploitative measures that were synonymous with U.S. imperialism.
