- Abstract
This article discusses the social problems and discontent caused by the reforms to the Real Hacienda (Royal Treasury), which served to increase taxes and revenue to the Kingdom of Guatemala in the latter half of the18th century. A proclamation by Pedro de Salazar, president of the Real Audiencia (Royal Audience) of Guatemala in 1766 is reprinted, in which he attempts to control the social unrest caused by the reforms, with particular emphasis of those in the city of Santiago de Guatemala, Guatemala.
