الطائفة، الطائفية، الطوائف المتخيلة: نقاشات نقدية
- Abstract
This collection includes four readings of Azmi Bishara’s book, Sects, Sectarianism and Imagined Sects (Beirut: ACRPS, 2018). The ACRPS held a seminar to discuss the book in April 2018, whereby two papers (by Mohammed Jamal Barout and Haider Saeed) were presented, along with two extended book reviews (by Mehdi Mabrouk and Hussam Abu Hamed). In his book, Bishara proposes a grounded model and a general theory on Middle–Eastern sectarianism through reconceptualization of sectarianism within its Middle–Eastern historical context. In order to examine Middle–Eastern sectarianism, Bishara deconstructs the Weberian conceptual framework on western sectarianism. The theory also re–examines other theoretical approaches used in understanding the development of sectarianism in Arab societies, primarily Ibn Khaldun’s Asabiyyah.
