- Abstract
The article presents a phenomenological research on the Squamish Ocean Canoe Family based on stories shared by the Protocol Keeper Wes Nahanee and Squamish Ocean Canoe Family President Larry Nahanee in British Columbia. Topics discussed include the residence of the Squamish people around the coastal inlet Howe Sound, role of the ocean as a source of food, culture, ceremony and spirit for the Squamish, and revival of the ocean-going canoe and traditions such as the Tribal Canoe Journeys.
