- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "Bilbo's Journey: Discovering the Hidden Meaning of The Hobbit" by Joseph Pearce is presented. Pearce's analysis of "The Hobbit" written by author J.R. R Tolkien is presented that studies the protagonist Bilbo Baggins pilgrimage of maturation. Comparison with Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" as well as the ideas of mysticism and divine providence are noted. The narrative structure of "The Hobbit" is discussed. Distinction between fairy tale and epic is noted.
