- Abstract
The article provides information about the rebellion of Abu Bakar during 1879. It says that rebellion is one of the logical consequences of conquest for throughout human history where force is used to expand territory. The Dutch suppression of revolts throughout West Borneo is an attempted rebellion along the Embaloh River in 1879 by Haji Abu Bakar in league with some Iban from the Rejang of Sarawak. In addition, Abu Bakar worked as the native representative for the Dutch colonial government.
