- Abstract
The article analyzes the film "Black Cat, White Cat" directed by Emir Kusturica and the book "Odessa Tales" by Isaac Babel. "Black Cat, White Cat" follows a gypsy grifter who was swindled by his own partner, while "Odessa Tales" is a collection of short stories on the Russian Civil War situated in Odessa, Ukraine. These short stories include "King," "How It Was Done in Odessa," and "Ljubka Kazak." Also explored are the similarity of themes, motives and style between the film and the book.
