Smoking cessation for cancer patients: rationale and approaches.
- Authors
Eriksen, Michael P.; Kondo, Albert T.
- Abstract
The article examines the potential health benefits of smoking cessation for cancer patients. Smoking cessation is an important adjunct to the treatment of a number of cancers. It has been suggested that smoking cessation is a therapeutic benefit to many cancer patients. However, there are a few people know about the continued benefit of smoking cessation following the occurrence of the initial cancer. Smoking cessation should be recommended prior to treatment and hospitalization and as soon as possible after diagnosis. It is recommended in the article that smoking cessation interventions be provided for those cancer patients who would benefit therapeutically from quitting.
