- Abstract
Lifeboat ethics first appeared as an ecologic, ethical and political theory. Hardin comes up with this theory as a solution for increasing human population, climate change, decrease in the natural resources and the immigrant issue these problems brought about. Hardin also puts forward this lifeboat ethic as a counter theory against environmentalists' spaceship ethic. In this regard, he suggests an ethics that protects the properties or resources of countries instead of sharing them. On this account, Hardin makes it clear that rich countries should close the doors to immigrants and preserve their richness. Recently, Hardin's account of lifeboat ethics has been Europe's main policy on the Syrian issue. With this context, Hardin's lifeboat ethics has confirmed once again that human rights only apply to the European people.
