Teacher Perceptions of New Literacies.

- Abstract
The literacies needed to succeed in today's technology-rich culture are different from those of even ten years ago--when many teachers received their preparation for the classroom. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact on teacher belief and practice of a series of professional development workshops on the New Literacies. Surveys were administered to the thirty-one participants before and after the five four-hour workshops which occurred over a period of four months. Results indicate that teachers' perceptions of literacy broadened and they perceived their own practice changing as they were introduced to technology tools within a collaborative environment. However, data suggests that teachers may need additional, and perhaps different support to sustain their use of technology in ways that are consistently flexible and appropriate.
