- Abstract
Theresa was a teacher candidate starting her student teaching semester. She was excitedly preparing her Teacher Work Sample (TWS) that would be the culmination of all of her years of study in the teacher prep program. She was teaching a first grade bilingual class that included three students with special needs. The school was in a low-income area, and the district itself was low-income. The parents were always at the school volunteering, and a large local business sponsored the school and gave the school many “extra” items for both playground and classrooms. As Theresa planned her week-long TWS, she thought back to all she knew about writing a great lesson. She knew her lesson would have to address community, district, and school factors, classroom factors and the characteristics of her students in order for her students to be successful.
