Should anaesthetists routinely use a gabapentinoid perioperatively?
- Authors
Sanders, G. J.
- Abstract
The article looks at whether anaesthetists should routinely use a gabapentinoid perioperatively. It discusses the adjunctive role of gabapentin and pregabalin in the management of acute postoperative pain when administered perioperatively. It cites several controlled trials which showed the effectiveness of perioperative pregabalin in the management of postoperative pain. The use of perioperative pregabalin in patients undergoing hysterectomy and myomectomy is also discussed.
