- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of improving vision care for the growing Hispanic and Latino populations in the United States. It highlights the increasing numbers of immigrants entering the country and the corresponding growth of the Hispanic population. The article explains the difference between the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" and emphasizes the need to respect individual preferences when using these terms. It also emphasizes the importance of caring for the eye health and vision of the Hispanic population, as certain eye conditions are more prevalent among this group. The article provides recommendations for eye care professionals to better serve the Hispanic population, including education, collaboration with local organizations, providing accessible eye care, and promoting cultural sensitivity. It also emphasizes the benefits of bilingual eye care providers in improving communication, understanding, trust, and compliance among Hispanic patients. The article concludes by providing additional resources for both eye care professionals and Hispanic patients.
