The evolution of treatment for early breast cancer: what's next?
- Authors
Howell, T.
- Abstract
The article presents the evolution of breast cancer treatment. Researchers discovered that in 1911, the removal of ovaries of women with breast cancer increased the chances of their survival. Results of the trial done by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) revealed that tamoxifen is considered a gold-standard treatment in reducing the recurrence of breast cancer among post-menopausal women. At present, effective cancer screening programmes and improved surgical techniques were present to stop the recurrence of breast cancer.
