- Abstract
The fibropapillomatosis is a disease characterized by the formation of multiple cutaneous tumors that primarily affects green turtles (Chelonia mydas). The objective of this report was to report the histopathological findings of integument lesions found in sea turtles. During 2011, 150 sea turtles were necropsied and samples from lesions in cutaneous tissue. These were fixed in neutral buffered formalin for 10% and sent for histopathology, the Department of Pathology, State University of North Fluminense, where they were processed according to routine histological techniques and stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE). 144 animals were the species Chelonia mydas, two Caretta caretta, two Eretmochelys imbricate and two Lepidochelys olivacea. The only cutaneous lesions was observed fibropapillomatosis in two species of turtle Chelonia mydas. The conclusion of this report that integument lesions in sea turtles are rare, and the fibropapillomatosis C. mydas found the one.
