A literary criticism of the book "Conferences" by John Cassian is presented. It presents a series of twenty-four conversations between two young monks from various monastery. These conversations discusses a range of topics which includes basic observances of the monastic life, importance of recognizing God's mercy and structure and dynamics of the spiritual life.
