The Symbolism of Hiroshima, Mon Amour.
- Authors
Cardullo, Bert
- Abstract
The article discusses the film "Hiroshima, Mon Amour," directed by Alain Resnais. According to the article, Resnais did not intend to re-create the bombing of Hiroshima, but to establish a metaphor of the bombing through the character of the French woman in the film. In addition, it states that Resnais made the decision to make a fiction film rather than a documentary for it to become accessible to the American people as well as to avoid making a bad impression of the country. Furthermore, it creates a comparison between the love life of the French woman and the conflicts between France and Germany as well as the U.S. and Japan.
