- Abstract
The article presents information on the application of communication theory and research in the legal community. It notes that the working partnership of lawyers and social scientists must be with mutual respect and cooperation if the effort of each are to be beneficial to others. It explains the relationship between voir dire and the deliberation process. The three specific objectives in voir dire include: identification of those individuals who are qualified to serve as jurors; those who hold attitudes, beliefs and values that may bias them for or against the defendant or the state; and those whose background or experience may provide grounds for a preemptory challenge. It discusses the qualifications for necessary for an effective communication specialist.
