- Title
THE RASTAFARI MOVEMENT.
- Abstract
This article describes the presentation of a Special Musgrave Award given to the Rastafari movement in Jamaica. The article also presents information about the Rastafari and its inception in 1930. Rastafari followers derive spiritual leadership from indigenous Jamaican and Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie. The Rastafari movement in Jamaica began at the coronation of Selassie and it embraced the pan-African beliefs and political expressions. Rastafari has expanded beyond the borders of Jamaica to be embraced in cities such as Rome and Amsterdam. The spread of Rastafari has been partly attributed to the music of Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley.
