- Abstract
The article discusses the author's experience of interviewing Alfred DeRepentigny, father of author Grace Metalious, born Grace DeRepentigny, best known for her novel "Peyton Place." It focuses on Metalious' Franco-American background and her childhood in Manchester, New Hampshire. Alfred DeRepentigny's absence during his daughter's childhood and his career in the Merchant Marine are addressed. Other topics include Metalious' education at Manchester's Ash Street School and Manchester Central High School, her religious attitudes, and the roots of her literary inspiration.
