The article describes the characteristics of Helicobacter pylori. It has been established that the bacterium causes more than 90 percent of duodenal ulcers and up to 80 percent gastric ulcers. Helicobacter pylori is a spiral-shaped Gram-negative bacterium that colonizes the stomach in about 50 percent of all humans. In some individuals, it infects the corpus region of the stomach.
