- Title
Trend stoppen: Bibliotheken in Bildungslandschaften als Partner der Leseförderung verankern: Deutscher Bibliotheksverband besorgt über die aktuellen Ergebnisse der IGLU-Studie 2021.
- Abstract
The results of the International Primary School Reading Study (IGLU) 2021 show that around 25 percent of fourth graders in Germany do not have sufficient reading skills. The German Library Association (dbv) expresses concern about the ongoing downward trend in the reading ability of primary school children and emphasizes the need for early and systematic reading promotion. Libraries play an important role as partners in educational landscapes in the development of language and reading skills in children and adolescents. The dbv calls for a legal framework, coordinated educational plans, as well as sufficient personnel and financial resources to make reading promotion the highest priority in education policy.
