Payne, Brian K.; Gainey, Randy R.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the conditions and restrictions associated with electronic monitoring (EM) that make it punitive. The two types of conditions, namely controlling and technological conditions, are described to be the requirements that offenders need to meet as a result of their punishment. EM restrictions are likewise explained, which pertain to the activities of the offender, such as controlling, technological and passive restrictions. The need for more public awareness in order for EM to be trusted is emphasized.
