- Title
New Kids on the Hypertension Block: Novel Agents With New Mechanisms of Action.
- Authors
Schiffrin, Ernesto L
- Abstract
The article discusses the lack of new molecules for the treatment of hypertension over the past 30 years, with the exception of the combination drug valsartan/sacubitril. However, there are now several new agents that target novel blood pressure regulating mechanisms, including endothelin receptor antagonists, non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, aldosterone synthase inhibitors, small interfering ribonucleic acid to inhibit the production of angiotensinogen, and M natriuretic peptide. These new agents offer potential advancements in the treatment of hypertension and provide researchers with exciting options for further exploration in the field.
