- Authors

- Abstract
The article explores the potential health benefits of prebiotics for consumers and their role in primary health care. It states that prebiotics act as food for naturally existing gut bacteria that help provide different health benefits. Moreover, prebiotics are not destroyed by gastric acid therefore they reach the colon where they are fermented by beneficial bacteria. The health benefits of prebiotics include increased gastrointestinal mucosal immunity and reduction of colitis.
