- Title
PRISON OVERCROWDING: THE SENTENCING JUDGE AS SOCIAL WORKER.
- Authors
Jones, Michael T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the difficulties faced by trial judges with having to determine what punishment best suits an offender, in light of the problem of prison overcrowding and the trend toward rehabilitation rather than traditional sentencing. The author explains that these factors may have forced judges to consider sentencing alternatives from the field of social work. Some examples of alternative sentencing options include sending an offender to drug court, anger management courses, and such.
