- Abstract
The avoidance and utilization of plastic waste from food packaging is an important topic in the EU. The recycling of PET bottles is already technologically mature, but the recycling of heterogeneous post-consumer plastic waste is a challenge. The company Der Grüne Punkt - Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DGP) and the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden have joined forces to develop a process for producing sustainable polypropylene fibers from recycled post-consumer plastics. Through a patented purification process and systematic investigation of relevant process parameters, highly pure recycled granules could be produced, from which rPP multifilament yarn can be made. The goal is to create a closed PP material cycle and produce high-quality textile-based products based on rPP.
