- Abstract
As part of a research project at the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology at TU Dresden, hybrid yarns for thermoplastic composites were developed. The influences of yarn formation technologies and fiber volume fractions on the mechanical properties were analyzed. The goal of the project was to create a new class of materials for lightweight applications that combine high stiffness, strength, and crash or impact properties. Two material concepts based on established yarn formation technologies were used to produce thermoplastic composites tailored to specific requirements. The research work was funded by the Research Association Research Council Textile e.V.
