- Authors

- Abstract
This study analyzes state legislators' perceptions of the effectiveness of administrative controls applied to public bureaucracies and designed to assure administrative accountability. The data, produced by mailed questionnaires to state House and Senate members in eight states, reveal that respondents consider legislative over- sight committees as the most effective administrative control technique. This assessment might be interpreted to mean that oversight committees have more potential for encouraging administrative accountability in state government than other forms of administrative control.
