The essay discusses the reasons why societies should be concerned about women's political participation, gender inequality among elected representatives, and the implications of these issues for the policy of multiculturalism in Canada. A case study regarding niqabs, or Muslim face veils, and their role in facilitating or hindering Muslim women's political participation is also presented.
